Redefining what a solo improvisation practice is to her, the acclaimed musician and sound artist Sia Ahmad looked to the past and work as an incidental archivist, using sounds collected since her teenage years, captured on various media such as cassette tapes and iPhone recordings.

In real-time, recorded instruments and environmental sound create new psycho-geographic locations, blurring her world between the home, the studio and local neighbourhood with sonic memories from her travels across Bangladesh, India, Malaysia, Japan and Indonesia.

With this performance, she premieres the possibilities of expanding this "fourth world" aesthetic, working with different live collaborators in each city she performs in to hold conversation through deep listening, the narrative being driven by where she take the sounds or in response to the impressions of others.

About Sia Ahmad

With a rich and extensive background in Australian music, Sia Ahmad has been creating idiosyncratic sounds over the last decade and more. Using guitar, keyboard, voice and electronics, she works both as singer/composer and improviser, when performing as Shoeb Ahmad, as well as collaborative projects.⁠

Once of acclaimed electronic jazz outfit Tangents and an APRA AMCOS Art Music Award winner, Sia has performed and released a diverse range of original music throughout Australia, Japan, New Zealand, Europe and South Eastern Asia while also working on sound design for dance/theatre (including the Australian Dance Award winning 'Wonder Woman' by Laura Boynes), installation pieces and contemporary chamber composition.
