Polymorphic Orkestra is an electro-acoustic art music ensemble that creates improvised compositions using a blend of traditional instruments, media technology, audio effects, and pre-recorded audio stem data. While their music is free in form, it is not overtly atonal.

Their sound is rhythmic and melodic, constructed live during each performance and demanding a high level of inter-ensemble focus and musical sensitivity. Performances unfold as immersive journeys, with no set pieces or predetermined tunes. Typically, the ensemble delivers one continuous set without breaks.

Polymorphic Orkestra has released five critically acclaimed albums. Their sixth album, featuring guest artist Robert Vincs (Saxello) and recorded at the Boom! International Festival of Percussion, was released on 2 May 2025.

Polymorphic Orkestra have released 6 albums to much critical acclaim and have performed in major venues and festivals in Sydney and nationally. These include:

  • Boom! International Festival of Percussion
  • Reginald Theatre, Seymour Centre, Sydney
  • City Recital Hall, Sydney for Extended Play
  • Melbourne Jazz Co-op series
  • SIMA
  • NIDA Studio Theatre
  • Kinetic Jazz Festivals
  • Smith’s Alternative
"This is contemporary improvisation of a very high order – not only does the listener experience the joy of spontaneous creation by the players but also, and this is I think pretty unusual, you are left with memorable snippets of tunes and melody that stay with you long after the music ends."
Chris Baber Jazz Views UK

" Played on vibraphone, trumpet, flugelhorn and drums, cushioned with samples and FX, the two compositions on this release are superb examples of the direction in which modern jazz improvisation is heading in this millennium. This trio of experimental musicians is surely the avant-garde."
Barry O’Sullivan Fine Music 102.5

"This is unique and rewarding music. The trumpet colours call to mind obviously Miles Davis‘ more expansive fusion sides, as well as the electric watercolours of Jon Hassell, yet the Polymorphic Orkestra has its own voice and vision, and it is perfectly realised here. Give them an hour and they will give you a world."
