Sensitive Instruments
On 20 July, we were thrilled to host an evening of electronic music and science-inspired poetry, featuring composer Alexis Weaver and poet Dr. Geosmin Turpin. The event showcased how these two art forms can intertwine to express the emotionality and humanity within science.
The evening began with each artist presenting their own work before they joined forces to present the Australian premiere of their collaborative piece, Soft Matter, Hypersensitive Instruments, originally debuted at the Biennale di Venezia in 2023. The performance provided an immersive experience, as Alexis' electroacoustic music and Geosmin's poetry were explored in a deeply reflective and engaging way.
Throughout the concert, Alexis and Geosmin conversed with the audience, offering insights into their creative processes and the science behind their work. After the performance, attendees were invited to stay for further conversation and explore the sounds of the digital instruments used in the performance.
Thank you to all who attended this unique and thought-provoking event!
