On 29 June, we were treated to a thrilling performance featuring four innovative musicians who celebrated friendship and the magical power of spontaneous musical dialogue.

With performances from Sandy Evans, Satsuki Odamura, Steve Elphick, and Sohrab Kolahdooz, the concert was a remarkable exploration of musicality and inventiveness.

The trio of Sandy, Satsuki, and Steve had already wowed audiences at the Sydney Opera House and the Sydney International Women’s Jazz Festival, and with Sohrab joining them for the first time, the premiere of this exciting new collaboration did not disappoint.

Sandy shared her excitement about the performance:

About the Artists:

Satsuki Odamura is a master of the Koto and Shamisen, leading the Satsuki Odamura Koto Ensemble and performing extensively internationally. Her latest CD, "Pearl of May," features works by Australian composers.

Sohrab Kolahdooz is a virtuoso percussionist and educator, renowned for his contributions to global musical collaborations and solo performances, with a passion for inspiring students and fostering creativity.

Sandy Evans is an internationally renowned saxophonist and composer, celebrated for her work in improvisation and new music. She has received numerous awards and honors, including a Churchill Fellowship and an ARIA Award.

Steve Elphick, an ARIA Award-winning bassist, has been a key figure in the Australian jazz scene since the 1980s, playing in groups like Mara! and Ten Part Invention.
