iipm Project’s «figures & fixtures» Debuts in Australia
Australian audiences experienced the captivating live debut of Swiss-based duo iipm project in Sydney, as part of their Australian tour featuring their latest work, «figures & fixtures». Known for their innovative approach and boundary-pushing performances, Phoebe Bognár from Australia and Mikołaj Rytowski from Poland brought their unbounded performative, post-instrumental exploration to the stage, redefining the possibilities of flute and percussion.
The concert showcased three newly commissioned pieces, created in close collaboration with composers Anna Sowa, Yanik Soland, and Elizabeth Jigalin. These works, rooted in the fundamental duo of flute and percussion, served as a launching pad for exploring themes of expansion, resemblance, and subjectivity, offering a multifaceted perspective on their combined artistic identities.
Throughout the performance, iipm project demonstrated their signature fluidity, engaging in a continuous dialogue with the space, their audience, and each other. Their approach transforms traditional instrumental roles into an immersive, dynamic experience, challenging expectations and inviting listeners into a realm of inventive soundscapes.
Having previously performed at renowned festivals such as ZeitRäume, Open House Basel, and Nachtstrom at Gare du Nord in Switzerland, as well as at the Darmstädter Ferienkurse in Germany, iipm project continues to expand their international presence. Their «figures & fixtures» project, which premiered in Sydney, offers new insights into their multifaceted artistic practice, blending ideas of identity and perception through the language of modern, experimental music.
Looking ahead, the duo will bring their next project, CON.TACT, to the stage at IGNM Basel in June 2025. Centered around the theme of touch, this upcoming work promises further exploration of performance space and audience engagement, continuing their journey of inventive, collaborative exploration.
