A Musical Journey Through Time and Myth

A Musical Journey Through Time and Myth

On 8 June, Local Edition audiences were transported to the dawn of time, guided by the rich traditions of Chinese cosmology. This captivating performance combined spoken narrative with enchanting musical interludes, offering a rare retelling of an ancient Chinese creation myth.

Dr Nicholas Ng, an accomplished musician and music director of the Chinese Music Ensemble at the Sydney Conservatorium, led the performance. Joining him were two extraordinary artists: Clíona Mollins, a Sydney-based harpist known for her performances at the Sydney Opera House and on ABC Radio, and Maharshi Raval, a tabla virtuoso who has graced stages like the Royal Albert Hall.

The trio wove a mesmerizing tapestry of sound, seamlessly blending genres and instruments to evoke the cosmic balance of creation. Their collaboration transcended cultural boundaries, delivering a performance that resonated deeply with all in attendance.

It was an evening of profound storytelling and masterful musicianship—a journey not only through time but across the diverse landscapes of music and myth.
